Marinaleda

Marinaleda is a town of 2,700 people in Andalucia, Spain that since the first election of its major Juan Manuel Sanchez Gordillo in 1979 has adopted a cooperative approach to employment, housing and food production.

It is often negatively described in the Spanish national media as the ‘Communist Village’.

The writer, Keith Payne and myself travelled to Marinaleda twice. We conducted interviews, made a short video and spent time with some locals.
